Historical Event on 8/25/1917

The first significant step towards the Indianization of the Army was initiated when seven selected Indians, serving in the Army, were granted King's Commission in the Infantry and the Cavalry. Before the World War ended, two more Indians, who previously held temporary commissions, were granted King's Commission.

5/18/1966Panchanan Maheshwari, great Indian scientist of botany, passed away. He studied the morphology, anatomy and embryology of some angiosperms, the class of plants which produce flowers. He discovered species of plants like ""Panchanania Jaipuriensis and Isoeted Panchananil."" He wrote two authoritative books, 'An Introduction to the Embryology of Angiosperms' & 'Recent Advances in Embryology on Angiosperms'. In 1951, he founded the International Society of plant Morphologists.

12/10/1878Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, great social reformer, ardent patriot, incisive thinker and eminent literateur was born at Hosur in Tamil Nadu. He was the first Indian Governor General of independent India and popularly known as 'Rajaji'.
7/22/1918During the First World War, India's first fighter pilot Indra Lal Rai's plane was shot down in battle by Germans planes near London. Rai had fought for Britisher's Force.
9/30/1996Phase I assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
7/7/1997Armed Kuki militants shot dead 25 persons and injured five seriously in an attack on Paites village in Manipur.
