United East India Company of the Netherlands i.e. Dutch East India Company was chartered by States-General of Holland. During its 96-year history, it became one of the world's most powerful companies.

10/20/1920Censor Board, after examining the film 'Ahilya Uddhar' on October 20, started mentioning the number of reels as well as the length in feet on the Censor Certificate. The film had already been released earlier on August 23, 1919.
1/30/1948Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, the spiritual leader of Indian independence, was shot and killed by a Hindu extremist. The 78-year-old Gandhi was shot at point-blank range as he was walking through a garden to a pergola, where he was to deliver his daily prayer meeting.
12/24/1973E.V.Ramasami, founder of DMK party, prominent leader, great social worker and revolutionary freedom fighter, died at the age of 94.
2/1/194217 Indian Division's were withdrawn over vast stretches and the British evacuation in Burma was the longest in British military history. The Division was to subsequently extract terrible retribution from the Japanese Army during World War II and to destabilise the Indian Economy with forged notes of 5, 10 and 100 Rupees.
11/1/1936Dr. Adarsh Sein Anand, justice, was born at Jammu (J & K State). He was the Chief Justice of India from 10/10/1998.
5/18/1912Narayan Govind Chitre, with the help of R. P. Tipnis and Cameraman Johnson, produced a 8000 ft. long theatrical film 'Pundalik', which was directed by Ramchandra Torney alias Dada Saheb Torne. The entire film was shot in a theatre at Mangaldas Wadi in Bombay, where the Sangit Mandali, a professional theatre group, was performing a play 'Pundalik'. The film was released on May, 18 in the Coronation Cinematograph at Girgaum, Bombay.
